RAT CITY ART CITY
2nd Thursdays • 6-9pm

“I am an art therapist and musician, originally from Chicago. I received my Masters in Art Therapy Counseling last year and will be opening a private practice in West Seattle soon. Art and music has always been a part of my life, professionally and personally. Painting has been a tool which I have used to study the beauty and light of objects as well as a method to cope with change, stress and transition. I began this body of work five years ago when I first moved to Seattle. At the time, one of my housemates was restoring old mopeds. One evening I had the privilege to photograph many of the greasy and grimy metal components of these vehicles. Using oil paints to depict enlarged, black and white imagery of metal components has been an aspect of my work for several years. I am fascinated at the transformation that metal can take on when depicted with the richness of oil paint. Black and white darkroom photography was my first medium in art school, from which I moved into drawing and then painting. Individuals who have impacted my creative work include: Dianne Arbus, Marc Chagall, Bob Dylan, Wassily Kandinsky and Edith Kramer.”
